Brook’s Law in project management is an informal observation that states: “Adding manpower to a late project makes it later.” In other words, when a project is behind schedule, adding more people to the team can actually cause further delays because of the time required for new team members to become productive and the increased communication overhead. It’s a cautionary principle suggesting that throwing more resources at a problem may not always speed up its completion, especially if the project is already running behind. It’s essential to carefully consider the impact of adding personnel to a project to avoid exacerbating delays. This law is named after Fred Brooks, a renowned computer scientist and author of the influential book “The Mythical Man-Month.”
