What is PMI-PBA Certification?

PMI-PBA certification is one of the fastest growing certifications in business analysis. Business analysis has become a critical competency as related to project management. If you work with project teams and manage requirements or product development, or if you’re a project or program manager who performs business analysis in your role, then the PMI-PBA certification is right for you. It helps advance your career by providing a solid foundation of the concepts required to do your job as well as validates your experience by the international recognition you receive from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Eligibility Criteria for PMI PBA Certification

Option 1: Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree, or the global equivalent)

  • Business Analysis Experience: 60 months working as a practitioner of business analysis. This experience must have been earned in the last 8 years.
  • 35 contact hours for training in business analysis.

Option 2: Bachelor’s degree or higher degree (or global equivalent)

  • 36 months working as a practitioner of business analysis. This experience must have been earned in the last 8 years.
  • 35 contact hours. Hours must have been earned in business analysis practices.

Option 3: Bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree from GAC accredited program (bachelor’s or master’s degree or global equivalent)

  • Minimum 2 years/24 months working as a practitioner of business analysis. This experience must have been earned in the last 8 years.
  • 35 contact hours. Hours must have been earned in business analysis practices.

*Note: for those who hold an active PMP and/or PgMP certifications, PMI has already verified you have exceeded the project experience requirements. In other words, active PMP and/or PgMP certification holders will be accepted as fulfilling the general project experience requirements.

Course Duration

Three Days and additional question and answer sessions scheduled with the participants after the course delivery (equivalent to 35 Contact Hours or Professional Development Units)

  • Tools and techniques Benchmarking, document analysis, interviews, prototypes, Capability table, Cause and effect, process flows, SWOT, affinity diagram, Five-why, cost-benefit analysis, brainstorming, weighted ranking, story mapping

Day 2

Stakeholder engagement and business analysis planning

  • Identify stakeholder, Stakeholder analysis
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication management
  • Business analysis planning, Assess business analysis performance
  • Tools and techniques – Org charts, Job analysis, Persona analysis, questionnaires and surveys, RACI, stakeholder map, Lessons learned, retrospectives, burndown charts, decomposition models

Requirements elicitation

  • Defining elicitation approach, Plan and prepare for elicitation
  • Conduct elicitation, Confirm elicitation results
  • Tools and techniques – Facilitated workshops, focus groups, interviews

Day 3

Requirements Analysis

  • Determine requirement analysis approach, Create and analyse models
  • Define and elaborate requirements, Define acceptance criteria
  • Verify and validate requirements, Requirements prioritization
  • Product risk identification and analysis, Assess product design options
  • Tools and techniques – scope models (Goal and objective model, ecosystem, context diagram, feature model, use case diagram), Process models (process flow, use case, user story), Rule models (business rules catalogue, decision table and decision tree), Data models (ER diagrams, data flow diagrams, data dictionary, state table and state diagram), Interface models (report table, system interface table, UI flow, wireframes)

Traceability and monitoring

  • Determine traceability and monitoring approach

Solution evaluation
