The change control system is a collection of the process that allows change requests to be analyzed, approved (or declined) and managed. There are four types of change control system that allows change requests and one of them is the contract change control system.

The contract change control system is used to gather, track and communicate all the changes to the project management contract.  Contracts usually come with the provisions to allow changes or include additional items into the contract. It is vital to take note that changes in the contract can affect the entire project scope and even the requirements of the project.

The contract change control system is not only a process that modifies the procurement and contract. In fact, it also involves paperwork, dispute resolution, tracking systems and approval levels to authorize the changes. Changes will always be present within the project but without the contract change control system, authorizing and implementing the changes will be difficult.

To make the contract change control system work even further, it also works with the integrated change control system which looks into the scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, risk and procurement of the project.
