The term flowcharting refers to an essential and extremely common project management technique and utilization that refers to a tool that is often utilized by the project manager and project management team during team meetings and team discussions. Flowcharting refers to a specific graphical representation of the order and process that must take place during the life of a project. This highly useful diagramming format represents and highlights every single mode of input, processing action, and output that is a fundamental element of the system process as a whole (which can also be referred to, for these purposes, as the project). Flowcharting is typically done off the cuff, and is not meant to represent a formal and unyielding plan of how the project must be conducted but rather, is almost a brainstorming type of activity, meant to merely illustrate the anticipated course that the project and its anticipated components will take, with the idea that it may in fact become obsolete as the project advances. In such cases, a new flowchart may be drawn up.
