The Program Evaluation and Review Technique is a method that is used in both planning and coordinating large projects. It is a project management tool that serves as a road map for a project in which all elements have been identified including their relationships with one another.

It is also a technique used to estimate that applies the weighted average of the different types of estimates – optimistic, pessimistic and most likely – especially when uncertainty is present with the individual duration of the activity.

The main feature of the Program Evaluation and Review Technique is the network diagram. This particular project management tool provides a visual image of all major project activities including the sequence on how they should be completed. It is important to take note that activities are defined as individually distinct steps in project management. These steps are necessary for the completion of the project that consumes both resources and time.

Project managers can get a lot of information by using the Program Evaluation and Review Technique as such they can determine which activities they need to do first before doing the next one.
